Williams was deserving but falls short in Big East Coaching Award

Many thought Marquette‘s Buzz Williams, with his team projected to finish well out of the Big East race, should win the Big East Coach of the Year award.  But that honor instead goes to Georgetown’s John Thompson.

Marquette, Georgetown and Louisville all shared the Big East Conference regular season title.

Georgetown’s 6’8 sophomore forward, Otto Porter, was voted the league’s Player of the Year.

Marquette will open play in the Big East tournament in the quarterfinals at 8:30 Thursday night against the winner of Notre Dame and Rutgers.
