Brewers shutout the Nationals on Independence Day
Martin Maldonado's solo home run in the fifth inning would be the lone and deciding run to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 1-0 win over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park Monday afternoon. Brewers starter Junior Guerra (6-1) would outduel Nationals top starter Max Scherzer (9-6) for the win, pitching a two-hit shutout in 7 1/3 innings to Scherzer's one-earned run given up in six innings pitched. Jeremy Jeffress would close out the ninth for his 22nd save of the season. The victory on Independence day bumps the Brewers season record to 36-46. Game two of the series is on Tuesday night, with coverage starting at 5:30pm on 1150-WHBY.
