Gomez and Brewers avoid arbitration

Outfielder Carlos Gomez and the Milwaukee Brewers avoided an arbitration hearing.  Gomez agreed to a 1-year deal worth $4.3-million for next season.

Gomez hit .260 last season with 19 home runs, 51 rbis and 37 stolen bases.

Three Brewers remain in arbitration, John Axford, Burke Badenhop and Marco Estrada.

WBC Update

The Provisional rosters were announced on Thursday for the 16 teams participating in the World Baseball Classic.  The Milwaukee Brewers have 14 players participating, which is right at the cap imposed by WBC regulations.

The WBC coincides with baseball training camps and that’s a bit of a problem for the Brewers, who don’t have their top two catchers.  Jonathan Lucroy and Martin Maldonado are both participating in the classic, which means they won’t have as much training camp work with the Brewers young pitching staff.
