Stave cleared to play in Rose Bowl

Wisconsin offensive coordinator Matt Canada said today that Badger quarterback Joel Stave, out since suffering a broken left collarbone in late October (Oct. 27), has been cleared to play in the New Years Day Rose Bowl game against Stanford.

Fifth-year senior Curt Phillips is set to start Tuesday against 8th ranked Stanford.  He is 2-2 as a starter with the Badgers, winning games against Indiana and against Nebraska in the Big Ten title game.  Phillips two losses came against Ohio State and Penn State.

Stave was the starter prior to his injury, posting a 4-2 record in his first season on the field.  He originally replaced Danny O’Brien as the starter in week 4.

On Thursday before practice, Canada said, “If it fits we’ll get him in there.”
